PinnelBusch Success Factors

Focus on the Design and Construction Industry

We focus on project and business management for the design and construction industry, which means we are  familiar with our client's needs.

Customize Training To Fit Specific Client Needs

Implementing the Pinnell/Busch Total Quality Cycle, we determine needs by interviewing managers about current practices and problems, and examine specific examples from typical projects.  Next, we jointly set clear, achievable objectives.  Then, we customize our standard material or develop entirely new instructional material to meet those needs.

Apply Hands-On Experience from Current Projects

Our training builds on years of hands-on experience in the industry.  We are professionally engaged in a wide range of projects.

Use State-of-the-Art Techniques with Practical Applications

As active members of the Project Management Institute, we are leaders in developing current industry directions. We teach theory to the extent necessary to understand the application, then provide specific examples.  We teach practical applications and effective short-cuts to implement sophisticated concepts.  We integrate real-life examples with state-of-the-art concepts and turn complex concepts into simple, understandable principles and usable techniques.

Set Achievable, Measurable Objectives that are Accomplished

Our training plans clearly describe achievable, measurable objectives, how to meet them, and how to measure success and ensure value.  Follow-up training ensures the material learned is applied.

Combine Training with Accomplishment of Actual Work

Whenever possible, we combine training with actual work.  During instruction, we identify actual projects and issues, elicit and respond to questions about current problems and applications, and often develop usable solutions on the spot.

For in-house workshops, we break students into teams after the training and have them prepare a usable work product based on the materials learned.  We return one or two weeks later to critique and conduct additional training.  This gives an immediate payback, results in better understanding, provides invaluable insights into how to improve the organization, and leads to more effective management.  Training can be effectively integrated with Pinnell/Busch consulting services.

Use Experienced Trainers

The most important factor is the knowledge and skill of the instructors.  That is our strongest asset.

Course and Program Curriculum Development

Pinnell/Busch has developed an extensive list of standard courses and seminars.  We are also experienced at developing comprehensive program curricula of multiple courses, workshops, and on-the-job training.  We are uniquely experienced in developing curriculum for the design and construction industry.

Business Management and Jobsite Management Skills for M/W/ESB and Other Contractors

We developed a two-year Construction Management Skills Training Program for contractors working for the City of Portland through its M/W/ESB Supportive Services Division.  This included a 30-course curriculum that provides hands-on business and construction management training to emerging, intermediate level, and experienced contractors.  Implementation is proceeding with our staff plus ten training subconsultants using seminars, workshops, and one-on-one support.  In addition, we supply procedures manuals, checklists, and blank forms for control and recordkeeping.

Project and Program Management of Public Works and Facilities Management

A current series of workshops for the Washington Department of Transportation focuses on scheduling, design management, and construction field office management.  We can develop and deliver a customized skills enhancement program for engineers, inspectors, public works managers, or facility managers to help them improve design and construction administration.

Programs (STP) for Construction Field and Management Supervisor Training Personnel

We develop and conduct STP training for the Associated General Contractors (AGC), Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), and National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), in addition to having authored one of the National AGC's instructional manuals.  We also develop and implement in-house training programs.
